Why do you want to go on a solo trip?

Everyone has different and similar reasons for wanting to go on a solo trip. The exhillerating feeling on independence. Not having to wait for others to plan a trip. Endless opportunities to meet new people. Learn about new cultures and cultural emersion. The reasons are endless as well are the destinations. There are so many countries and cities to explore every one with their own culture and possibilities to make those memories.

My reason? It was early August, I was getting so many Instagram Reels and TikToks videos about going on solo trips and i never thought about that as a possibility. I remember sitting at the dinning room table feeling the impulse about booking the cheapest solo trip destination using the well-known SkyScanner Explore feature. – If you don’t know yet, if you select your dates and choose explore it shows the cheapest travel destinations from your departure airport and this has been one of my favorite ways to book flights. – I am from Houston and the cheapest flight was to Cancun Mexico and lets note that I have only been out of the country once. The flights were around 200$ and i mentioined it to my mother and her reaction was absolutely not, but hey i wanted to experience what it would be like to be a solo traveler and so after the conversation, I still booked the flight. But of course before that I had to go through the necessary amount of research to make sure I know where I was going and how I could stay safe and that is exactly what I am going to tell you about today!

How do I prepare for a solo trip?

  1. Research Research Research

Literally before going I watched so many videos on how people, especially young adults who are women are safe and the different precautions they take and here are the ones that I was prepared to use.

  1. Destination: Where are you going to?
  2. Transportation: How will you get there?
  3. Lodging: Where will I be staying?

I think where you are staying is one of the most important parts of when it comes to solo traveling. Like will you stay in a hotel, AirBNB, hostel, or camp in the airport? If you are looking to meet new people and make fun experience I stand by the beleif that hostels are the best bet. However that definitely depends on the hostel you are staying it. Fortunatly I had the best first hostel experience for my first solo trip. I stayed with Mayan Monkey in Cancun Mexico in the hotel area so I knew there were going to be a lot more tourists and people here for a vacation so this offered me a more secure feeling of saftey
