Last January, I moved to Madrid, Spain for 4 months. It was there that I realized how fast-paced my life had been in the United States. I was so used to rushing everywhere, speed walking to class, eating meals while walking or in classes, and treating each day like a personal race to the finish lines.
When I arrived in Spain I saw that people moved at a completely different pace and it was not just walking pace, it was the pace of life. Meals were meant to be enjoyed slowly, conversations lasted for hours, and life was experience through as a genuine appreciation for the small and simply being present.
In the beginning it felt unfamiliar and I kept my pace, but then I realized how much I have been missing on always being in a hurry to the next thing and having every hour of my day planned.
I was able to embrace the local rhythm and energy and learned to slow down and live in the moment. That shift taught me and I hope it can teach you the value of mindfulness and connection and how taking time to experience a slowed down intentional pace is where you can deepen your understanding of yourself and the community around you.
After leaving I still hold that mindset in everything I do which is being intentional, listening, and appreciating the pace of each new environment I enter to experience it fully.
Remember Always,
Live a life you will remember.
Live with no regrets.
